The Dos and Don’ts of Enjoying Florida like a Local

Beach in Florida

If you want to make the most out of Florida, make sure you get some tips from the ultimate experts – the locals! Long-time Orlando resident Anna Nash shares her secrets..

DO pack the sunscreen. Florida is known for it’s heat and sunshine – don’t spoil your vacation with a sunburn on your first day! Apply SPF30 every 2 – 3 hours just to be safe while you’re outside. If you’re in and out of the water, apply more frequently and make sure its waterproof.

Sunbeds on the Beach

DON’T forget your water bottle. It gets pretty hot in Florida, especially in the summer. If you’d like to save some money for those shopping trips, bring water with you when you’re out and about! Buying it inside the theme parks can get pretty pricey, and us Floridians love to recycle and reuse.

DO wake up early. Whether you’re going to the parks or heading to the beach, the earlier the better. Crowds tend to populate later in the day. If you want to ride Space Mountain three times in a row or make sure you have a cabana oceanside, start your day early and enjoy the gorgeous sunrise!

DON’T get lost. Florida is a big place and you don’t want to waste your time driving in circles. Plan out where you want to go before you leave your hotel room. Bring a map and write down the directions so you can get the most out of your vacation time.

DO bring your walking shoes. One thing you can count on is doing a lot of walking while in Florida. You’ll want to wear your most comfortable shoes that won’t give you blisters – test them out before you wear them to the parks and make sure they pass your comfort test!

Magic Kingdom

DON’T forget, drive on the right! Renting a car can add a lot of time to your vacation instead of waiting around for shuttles, but make sure you are aware of the local laws and carry your driving license with you at all times.

DO enjoy the cool temperatures once the sun goes down. There’s just as much to do at night in Florida as there is during the day! Check out Universal CityWalk and Downtown Disney for fun night-life entertainment.

DON’T miss out the unforgettable experience of swimming with dolphins. Spend a day at Floridas most unique attraction, Discovery Cove. When you book your ticket through FloridaTix you’ll also get access to other theme parks like Seaworld, Aquatica and Busch Gardens.

Mickey Mouse Garden

DO enjoy a round of golf. With more than 1,250 golf courses within the state of Florida, golfers won’t have a problem finding a better combination of sun and sand than on one of our golf courses.

DON’T over-pay for your dream Florida vacation! Find the best deals and bundled bargains at specialist Florida websites like FloridaTix! From a 1-day park pass to the 14-day Ultimate Florida Combo ticket, you can save GBPGBPGBPs when you book your Florida park tickets and attractions in advance.
