Fun for the whole family at Tampa ZooQuarium
This fun for the whole family day out is a great way to see a mix of underwater aquatic creatures, mangrove forests, wildlife presentations and, a stunning 4-D theatre with sensory effects. From sharks, lemurs and chameleons, to zebras, meerkats and elephants, there’s a whole wave of excitement awaiting you at two of the top wildlife destinations in Florida.
The Florida Aquarium
Home to more than 7,000 aquatic creatures, The Florida Aquarium is the place to go if you want to get up close to many of Florida’s aquatic and terrestrial animals and ecosystems. This must-see attraction is on a mission to protect and restore our blue planet, working hard on many conservation fronts, including research and rescue efforts to help restore Florida’s sea turtle and coral populations. Also, ensuring sharks continue to swim the seas.
Here's what you can expect to see and do:
The Wetlands Trail - Begin your experience here with mangrove forests, wildlife presentations and a large aviary!
Journey to Madagascar - Explore this exhibit filled with ring-tailed lemurs, chameleons and marine life.
Bays to Beaches and No Bone Zone - Up close encounters with sea stars, anemones & come face to face with a 300-pound Goliath grouper
Waves of Wonder - A fun interactive & educational gallery focusing on conservation of turtles, rays, sharks and more
4-D Theater - Family fun at the 15 minute 3-D movie with cool sensory effects - included with your ticket!
The Splash Pad - Outdoor fun for the kids not to be missed! This rain-forest themed outdoor water play area will ensure tonnes of fun - don't forget the swimsuit!
Additional Fun Activities
Wild Dolphin Cruise - Take a 75-minute boat ride (weather permitting) in and around the bays, where you'll learn about the local area and, if you're lucky, see a pod of dolphins in their natural environment.
Go Behind the Scenes - Go behind the scenes to see how The Florida Aquarium operates. Get inside information about the aquarium, like where the water originates and how food is prepared. If it's feeding time, you might even see a feeding! You'll also have access to areas that are normally off-limits.
Penguins Backstage Pass - Enjoy a 30-minute close encounter with the African Black-Footed Penguin. led by an experienced penguin biologist, you may even get the opportunity to touch them!
ZooTampa at Lowry Park
As five-time winner of the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, ZooTampa at Lowry Park is one of the most popular zoos in south-eastern US. Caring for more than 1,300 animals, ZooTampa – with its incredible zoological tropical settings – is home to a broad selection of animals. From elephants, penguins and panthers, to hippos, tortoise and rhinoceros, these are just a few endangered and threatened species that you’ll see at ZooTampa.
Here are some of the amazing things you can expect to see and do at ZooTampa:
Florida- See bears, snakes, alligators and more in the parks Florida area. Explore Birds of Prey Shows and see manatees all year round, learning more about their incredible rehabilitation journeys.
Manatee Circle- Don't miss out on the Signature Encounter Meeting Area with rhinos, elephants and their keepers.
Africa- Exploration for the ultimate animal lover with meerkats, zebras, hippos and elephants. Up close encounters with giraffes, tortoise and fun for all on the Expedition Africa Safari Tram Ride!
Primates- Kids will love the Jungle Carousel play area. And don't forget to look out for lemurs and orangutan!
Wallaroo- From Water Play to the Tasmanian Tiger Coaster, kids will have hours of fun in this interactive play area - complete with petting zoo!
Asia- Up close feeding experiences and animal encounters with some of Asia's fiercest animals from Tigers to Crocodiles and Rhinos.
Availability
ZooTampa and The Florida Aquarium are open daily from 9:30am to 5:00pm. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Days.
Transport
Parking is available at the Aquarium surface lot that is adjacent to the north of Aquarium at the corner of Channelside Drive and York Street. Parking is $6. Buses are not permitted. Please note that the garage across the street from the Aquarium is not official Aquarium parking.
Opening Times
The Florida Aquarium is open daily from 9:30am to 5:00pm, expect Thanksgiving and Christmas day when it closes all day.
